Royal Ascot

So my run of bad luck with the horses continues, our of six races I only got to make one smug trip back to the bookies to claim my winnings and that was for the 8/13 clear favourite Yeats in the Gold Cup.

Before I get into the details of my days losses I should mention that it was still a great day out despite the weather. Ascot is a great venue for sampling the millionaire lifestyle and one day I’ll go and watch the racing from one of the boxes rather than standing on the grass in my cheap suit!

I was selecting my horses based on their recent form and betting between £5-£10 per race. In total I staked £50 and my only win was £5 on Yeats in the Gold Cup at 8/13 netting me £3.08 profit plus of course my £5 stake back. So overall I ended up £41.92 down for the day… oops! And it could have been even worse if I hadn’t set myself a £50 limit based on what I had already earned betting of football as I noticed towards the end my selections were for horses with longer and longer odds as I looked for that big winner to recover my losses.

If I had won money then this post would probably be several thousand words long as I relive my glory and share my knowledge of horse racing, however as I lost I’ll wrap it up with a brief description of what happened in the last race. My partner and I had picked 4 horses for the King George V Stakes, one failed to finish and the other three limped home as the last three to finish.
