Germany v Spain - Euro 2008 Final
16 teams begun Euro 2008 three weeks ago and now its down to just Germany and Spain to battle it out in the final. Spain have a terrible record in finals but start today’s match as favourites, but you can never rule out Germany as they have won this competition more times than any other nation.
I had a £50 free bet to use on tonight’s final which went on the game being a draw after 90 minutes. I also took advantage of another bookmakers offer betting a £10 qualifier on the game being 0-0 at half-time, with a free £10 bet going on the same outcome.
The possible outcomes for the £50 free bet were:
| Betfair | Bookmaker | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Draw | -£77.36 | £110 | £32.64 |
| Germany / Spain win | £32.66 | £0 | £32.66 |
The £10 qualifier would result in a loss of 61p whatever the outcome:
| Betfair | Bookmaker | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-time 0-0 | -£15.61 | £15 | -£0.61 |
| other score line | £9.39 | -£10 | -£0.61 |
And the possible outcomes from the £10 free bet were:
| Betfair | Bookmaker | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-time 0-0 | -£9.27 | £15 | £5.73 |
| other score line | £5.71 | Free bet | £5.71 |
Germany looked confident and started well but faded throughout the first half. Spain were the better team and deserved their one goal lead courtesy of Torres at half-time. Germany were unable to create any serious chances in the second half as Spain held on to their lead to win the game. So Spain finally shed their underachievers label as they celebrate winning Euro 2008.
The final match ended well for me too as I netted an overall profit of £37.76 to end what has been a fantastic tournament both in terms of the football and betting.
