The high price of power
I received the winter electricity bill today and it was a shocker at over £260 for the quarter. Whilst it may seem quite low in comparison to other bills I only have a small 2 bed apartment and rarely use the heaters opting instead for an extra layer of clothing.
Apparently now is a good time to switch electricity providers as 5 of the 6 major companies have already completed the latest round of price increases so I did a comparison search on energyhelpline.com to see if I could find a cheaper provider. It actually found that I was with the cheapest provider but I wasn’t on their cheapest rate so after a quick phone call I now am, easy as that.
Which is great as according to energyhelpline.com making that phone call will reduce my bill by 28% or in real money terms £226 per year. Except that’s not quite true as they have based that saving on what I spent on Electricity last year at the old rates. In reality the price of electricity just went up by 10% so that’s £80 of that saving gone, but that still leaves a potential saving of £146 but I wont know the real saving until the end of the year… assuming prices don’t go up again!
