My Budget Review Q3 2008
Another three months has passed and it’s time again to review my finances. The economic climate may have taken a turn for the worse, but will my finances require a government bailout?

I have been looking for a new road map for months now as my old map is slowly disintegrating into dust in my car. Online searches had proved rather fruitless and the cheapest I had found so far was the AA 2009 Road Atlas for £4.99 from a service station which I resisted as I know service stations tend to be quite expensive.
Then by chance today whilst looking at the Saturday papers in my local shop I noticed that the Daily Star is giving away the exact same AA map for free by redeeming a voucher inside the paper at WHSmith. So off I went to WHSmith to purchase my copy of the Daily Star for 60p and claim my free map (it’s not really an atlas as it’s not a collection of maps!).
There is a £100m jackpot up for grabs tonight in the EuroMillions lottery draw and as they say ‘it could be you’. If only one ticket holder wins the jackpot it will the the world’s biggest ever lottery prize. I don’t normally think entering the lottery is a good idea as the odds are stacked up against you. In fact the chance of walking away with the £100m is 1 in 76,275,360 or in other words very unlikely. (more…)
Over the last couple of days I have signed up for another two online bookmakers who were both offering £25 free bets for wagering the same amount. In less than an hour I earned nearly £50.
The last couple of days has seen unprecedented turmoil in the global banking industry and there may well be worst to come. Firstly Lehman Brothers files for bankruptcy protection, then Merrill Lynch is taken over by Bank of America to prevent it going the same way, before AIG are propped up by the US taxpayer and back here in the UK HBOS are taken over by Lloyds rather than join Northern rock on the governments books.
So with all this turmoil in the financial markets I am sticking to the sports markets for my investments as I continue matched betting, this time signing up with another bookmaker that is offering a £50 free bet in return for wagering £25 first.
