Britain gives Germany the boot!

With the pound falling over 15% against the euro this year it probably should have come as no surprise to me that German consumers are looking to the UK for bargain purchases. However, I had not thought about how this would effect my recent eBay selling before recently listing another batch of items for sale.

It quickly became apparent that the pound as a currency had significantly weakened recently as my inbox was flooded with questions from European eBay users asking how much it would cost to post the items to them. In comparison I did not receive a single question from overseas users during my many auctions over the summer.

In the end of the 30 items that sold, two were to be sent to addresses in Germany. Whilst this may only be 7% of the items sold, those two items had higher than average sales values representing over 17% of the total revenue I received. So next time you hear them banging on about how currency devaluation is good for the UK’s exporters just remember that you could be benefiting from the falling pound too!

Oh yeah, and the reason for that particular headline…. well one of the items just happened to be a pair of boots, the other being a jacket but I couldn’t work that into the title!
